The Ixos Institute

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
2 Timothy 2:2 NIV

In 2017 I began to read about an exodus by urban youth. I was perturbed by the statistics I was hearing being bandied about by several people on various platforms.

I felt I needed to get to the bottom of it and began a search that led me to a discovery-there is a generation of young Africans becoming disaffected by the Church and religious thinking at large. It turned out that Ipsos Synovate and The East African Institute had carried out surveys that were quite revealing. The surveys revealed that less than 7% of urban youth below 35 years of age were attending any regular religious gathering. This was a stark affront to what we normally would hear-that Kenya was an 80% Christian nation. But questions started coming to mind: What impact has the previous generation had on this present generation?

What factors have led to this exodus?

After 30 years of ministry to a generation, I was moved to begin thinking “what legacy will I leave behind? How can we address the dearth of quality leadership in the spaces now being vacated by the iconic leaders who have recently passed? And how can we penetrate and impact a increasingly cynical populace in the places that are becoming the seat of decision making? Thus the vision for the Ixos Institute has come into being. Ixos exists to bring transformation to a new generation by developing leaders in various fields utilizing emerging technologies, forums and methods for generational impact.
